Until this year, Tukwila was the only school district in the Greater Seattle metropolitan area that had not requested money specifically for computers and technology. Washington State does not provide technology, nor were other funding sources able to keep up with the technology needs of the district. This put Tukwila's students at a significant disadvantage for post-high school education and training and in competing locally and globally for jobs.
That's all changed. The community has passed the Tukwila Technology levy to raise $6.2 million over six years for technology and other capital needs for the Tukwila School District -- $5.285 million for computers and technology and $1 million for facility needs including bandwidth. It will provide for essential staff training as well.
As proponents of "continuous accelerated learning" as one of our core values, Sabey is delighted to have participated in helping the levy pass and in supporting the future of the community and its children.
